Rogue Amish Sect Members Arrested
Four men are in custody in Jefferson County charged with kidnapping and burglary for breaking into Amish homes and cutting off the beards of men there.
Authorities say that the incidents occurred in Holmes County.
The incident appears to be related to a religious dispute among the Amish for whom beards have a religious significance.
Beards were removed with garden shears.
NBC affiliate WTOV in Steubenville reports that the four who were arrested are members of a group that called themselves “The Bergholz Clan”.
Law enforcement says they got a break in the investigation when a driver of a truck and horse trailer said he took 27 Amish men to the house in Homes County where the incidents occurred.
